Fencing

The Lansdowne Club runs one of London’s longest established Fencing Clubs. Our Salle d’Armes is the oldest in London and resembles the European fencing rooms of the early 20th century. It has been refurbished recently with the most modern electronic scoring equipment and pistes.

Tuition is individual and embraces all three weapons in both Classical and Modern Fencing. The Club accommodates all levels of ability and all ages. Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced fencers are all welcome. Two of the Lansdowne Members became World Champions and many others have achieved both National and International awards.

Fencing is a sport of agility, which develops your co-ordination, balance, flexibility and reaction time; physical strength is of lesser importance. It is also highly cerebral with games of bluff and double bluff being played by fencers in their ‘conversation du fer’.

The Fencing Club holds various events throughout the year including many competitions, fencing in the courtyard in the summer and a dinner at Christmas.
