Reeling Evenings and Reeling Balls

There have been reeling evenings at the Lansdowne Club for many years and these take place once a month from September through to May.

Reeling evenings take place in the ballroom. For beginners and novices, there is general teaching and a ‘walk through’ of some of the more popular reels starting at 7pm This is followed by a meal at about 7.45pm. Reeling then starts again at about 8.30pm and continues until 10.30pm

Most of the dances at the reeling evenings are the popular reels that are danced at the London reeling balls. These are the Eightsome, Foursome, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Duke of Perth, Hamilton House, Inverness Country Dance, Machine Without Horses, Mairi’s Wedding, Postie’s Jig and the Reel of the 51st .

It is not necessary to come with a partner to the reeling evenings. The cost of £7.00 for members and £9.00 for non-members includes reeling, the meal and soft drinks and a glass of wine.

PLEASE REMEMBER THE CLUB DRESS CODE. TIES ARE NO LONGER NECESSARY BUT NO DENIMS PLEASE.

In June the Summer Reels Ball takes place and in December there is the Christmas Reels Ball. At these, the evening commences with a drinks reception before a piper in full regalia pipes everyone into dinner. After dinner, there is reeling to a live band in the ballroom. Members can book a maximum of 8 tickets.

PLEASE INFORM THE CLUB EACH TIME YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND A PRACTICE BY RINGING THE OFFICE ON 020 7318 6115 or EMAIL socialevents@lansdowneclub.com. ATTENDANCE SHOULD BE NOTIFIED NO LATER THAN THE DAY BEFORE THE PRACTICE.
